There are four courthouses in Tucson (not including the United States Bankruptcy Court or Juvenile Court.) So you are summoned to Court. Which one?
Tucson City Court is at 103 E. Alameda St., Tucson, AZ 85701. If a traffic citation or misdemeanor criminal violation occurred in the Tucson city limits, this is your courthouse.
Pima County Justice Court is at 240 N. Stone Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701. If a traffic citation or misdemeanor criminal violation occurred in unincorporated Pima County but outside the city limits, then this is your courthouse. Infractions that occurred on the University of Arizona campus are also resolved here. Also, this is where civil small claims lawsuits are filed. Any civil lawsuit where the amount in dispute in less than $10,000 can be filed in this court.
Pima County Superior Court is located at 110 W. Congress St., Tucson, AZ 85701. This is the court where the more serious criminal and civil cases are filed. Felony criminal matters are resolved in this courthouse, as well as most civil cases. Also, most family/domestic disputes are heard in this court, and this is the court where a probate can be opened. Most people who are summoned for jury service will appear for duty at this courthouse.
United States District Court is located at 405 W. Congress St., Tucson, AZ 85701. This is the federal courthouse. Federal crimes are prosecuted here. Certain civil cases are heard in this Court, but only those that arise from a federal statute, or where a plaintiff and defendant from different states are involved in litigation where the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000. The case load in this court is less than in Superior Court, but juries are still required for many trials that occur here. So double-check that jury summons to make sure you go to the correct courthouse.
